Building on the draft licence conditions from DESNZ and Ofgem, we want to share an industry perspective on what code management should do and what success looks like for the gas market.
The role of the Code Manager will be crucial for the successful and timely delivery of Gas Code Reform. Our latest white paper explores a series of important questions including:
- Why does the gas market need Code Reform?
- What should the role of Code Manager be?
- How can the Code Manager help to ensure a smooth and just transition to net-zero?
- How can we turn gas market codes from blockers of change into enablers of future priorities?
This new paper: 'An industry perspective on Energy Code Reform', draws on extensive consultation with a wide range of industry stakeholders to provide an in-depth exploration of what they want from Code Reform and expect from a Code Manager. It also highlights an urgent need for the early appointment of a Code Manager for Gas if the UK’s net zero goals are to be achieved.
What does the industry want from a Code Manager?
'An industry perspective on Energy Code Reform' also seeks to answer a range of important questions about what a Code Manager’s responsibilities should be and how it could best support the industry.
Industry stakeholder feedback has been used to lay out a 10 point agenda that defines key roles and can be used to guide performance expectations for the future Code Manager for Gas.
Central to the agenda is a requirement for the Code Manager not only to preserve knowledge of how existing arrangements work, but also to facilitate and proactively support the development of the UK energy system. As a part of this, and in line with stakeholder views, Xoserve advocates that the Code Manager should be actively involved in developing a new generation of industry talent; providing new opportunities for career progression and sustaining the health of a greener gas industry for years to come.
